In this programme we travel to Virginia and feature steam and diesel on the routes between Lynchburg and Petersburg as well as a separate visit to the rail centre at Roanoke.

Chapter one examines NS and CSX operations through Lynchburg, before following the NS Blue Ridge District east to Petersburg to feature Norfolk & Western J Class 4-8-4 #611 hauling ‘The Cavalier’ steam special. Locations include Maloney, Burkeville, Crewe and Blackstone.

Next, we focus on CSX and Amtrak trains in Petersburg, with locations in the area of North Collier yard and at the Amtrak station situated in Ettrick. Thirdly, we feature NS traffic through Roanoke with locations near the former Virginian station and at Randolph St with East Roanoke Shops in the distance. Closing scenes were filmed at Altavista, about 40 miles east of Roanoke.

Multi-camera action sequences offer additional and enhanced views of the huge variety of motive power hauling the passing trains; many travelling at different speeds with some extended views focusing in detail on manifests showing the different wagon types. All of the scenes were filmed during 2017
