An occasional series featuring trains in action from the National Network as well as on Heritage Lines in Britain.

This programme continues on from Issue 5 where we take a look at the West Coast Main Line between Crewe and Stafford. In our opening section we study the various types of train seen on the line with classes 390 and 350 dominating passengers services and with class 66 diesels working the variety of freight traffic to be seen including stone and container workings.

To the south of the main Midlands conurbations is the town of Royal Leamington Spa - an important gateway for traffic between the north and the south coast of England. We visit the station as we witness the current-day motive power with classes 66, 68, 165, 168, 172, 220, and 221.

It’s off to Scotland next as we look at the line between Dundee and Edinburgh including the spectacular Tay and Forth rail bridges. Classes 43, 66, 158, 170, 221 and 800 are all seen in action.

There are two semaphore signal outposts on the Southern Railway’s south coast route at Bognor Regis and Littlehampton. In this section we look at trains running into Littlehampton with the Grade II listed signalbox and  associated signals still in operation.

Our final section comes from the busy Stafford station as we continue with our look at traffic on the West Coast Main Line. Passenger trains dominate with examples from classes 220, 221, 350, 730 and 390. Freight and special workings see Classes 56, 57, 66, and 68 passing through with a variety of train and wagon types in tow.
