This programme looks at the BLS mainline on the northern ramp of the famous Lötschberg route to Brig and onwards to Italy via the Simplon tunnel.

The programme studies the everyday traffic to be seen on the line during 2017. We witness trains from the route’s main operators the B.L.S (Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon) and SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) from just north of Thun, near Wichtrach, to Kandersteg not far from the summit of the old line via the Lötschberg tunnel. On the way we call in to the station at Thun, visit the popular photographic location at Einigen overlooking Lake Thun, a number of positions around the junction station at Spiez before we head up into the mountains to follow the line to Frutigen and then the old classic route up towards Kandersteg.

We include detailed maps to show our filming locations as well as information on the numerous freight trains that we see ranging from car-shuttles, container, block freight, intermodal to lorry-carrying services.

A whole range of motive power is seen including classes 420, 425, 466, 465, 185, 186, 485, 486, 503, 565, 525, 535, 474, 475 & DB ICE. This DVD provides a comprehensive snap-shot of the freight and passenger trains to be seen on this busy and picturesque stretch of mainline in Switzerland.
