This programme looks at one of the most popular rail routes in Germany - The Rhein Gorge. Filmed between 2014 and 2016 the DVD features superb scenery as well as the latest passenger and freight train operators using the very busy lines running on either side of the Rhein River, between Hirzenach in the north and Assmannhausen in the south. We also visit Loreley, Oberwesel, Kaub, Bacharach and Lorch with scenes ranging from right next to the line to looking down on to the tracks from high up on the valley sides. A wide range of motive power is witnessed including members of DB classes 101, 103, 120, 139, 140, 145, 151, 152, 628 and 401. With private locomotives from classes 182, 185, 186, and 189; also SBB 482 and OBB 1112. Modern EMUs also appear from classes 427, 428, 429 and 460. Loco-hauled, passenger, ICEs, mixed freight, block trains and intermodal, as well as steam loco 012 066, are all seen making their way alongside this iconic waterway with its barges and passenger carrying river craft. This is an ideal programme for anyone interested in German Railways and brings the viewer bang up to date with the types of trains and traction to be seen.
