In this 50th Edition of European Railway we have an extended look at various railways across Europe using a number of two-camera action sequences, including preserved narrow-gauge steam in Northern France, BLS Centenary specials in Switzerland, Belgian freight line action, a look at a rural diesel line in Austria, a German hot-spot around Hannover, including operations in the former East.

FRANCE - a study of mainline diesel operations to the north & south of Abbeville with BB67400 locomotives dominating. We also look at the preserved metre-gauge Chemin de la Beie de Somme tourist line based out of St. Valery. A number of vintage steam locomotives are seen in operation as well as an ex-SNCF diesel railcar no: x212. Scenes include twin arrival & departure at Noyelles & along the harbour line at St.Valery quay.

SWITZERLAND - we visit the northern mainline out of the city of Bern which features standard and narrow-gauge lines running beside each other. SBB, BLS & Regionalverkehr Solothurn operations are witnessed with a wide variety of electric unit types and locos seen on freight and passenger. We also travel to Hindelbank station to study trains on the line to Burgdorf. We continue this section as we follow preserved BLS Te2/3, no: 31, as it hauls a special from Huttwil to Frutigen: we also have unusual footage filmed high above the valley floor of BLS Ae6/8, no: 205 south of Spiez.

GERMANY - we drop in to the mainline to Riesa east of Leipzig: classes 442, 101, 182, 139, ICE & CD372 are all seen. We then continue with a journey around the lines to the south & west of Cottbus where new & old traction still operate side by side. Finally, we travel to Berlin with a look at various classes on the Außenring from three locations featuring type 120, 145, 155, 185, 218, 112, 442 & 481.

BELGIUM - a look at freight traffic on Line 24 from Moresnet Viaduct to the River Meuse. We then follow Line 34 through Tongeren as we witness classes 28, ‘Euro 66’, 18, 19, 27, AM83 & AM96 on a variety of freight & passenger turns.

AUSTRIA - we visit the line east of Graz towards Feldbach. Classes 2016 & 5022 dominate on this interesting rural railway.
