(HD Blu-Ray) European Railway: Issue 55 (May - June 2014)
Description
Run-time: 1 hour and 45 mins approx.
In this programme we visit:
FRANCE - we study action on the route linking Amberieu & Culoz. The line passes through picturesque countryside as it makes its way through the Jura Mountain range. Locomotive-operated passenger services with BB22200, local trains operated by z9500, z9600, z27500 and TGVs are all seen. On the freight side we see BB26000, BB7200 and BB75000 on a range of services.
SWITZERLAND - our main feature in this programme comes from Switzerland as we study trains around Interlaken, from the shores of Lake Thuner See to the Schynige Platte Bahn rack railway. We begin at Leissigen on the BLS line to Spiez, where passenger and freight traffic is seen with ICEs , BLS class 425, RBDe 566, SBB Re6/6 and class 460s; we move east and call into the station at Därligen where the lake waters are just metres away from the tracks - distant mountains provide a spectacular backdrop. We continue towards Interlaken where we visit West station as further ICE, Class 425 and 460 locos arrive and depart. We watch trains cross two river bridges as we finish the standard-gauge section just west of Interlaken Ost station. A brief call is then made at Ringgenberg where a Zentralbahn class 160 EMU calls on its way to and from Interlaken. We then travel south along the Berner Oberland Bahn to just outside of Wilderswil where the BOB and SPB tracks diverge, here we see ancient SPB class He 2/2 making their way up and down the line together with BOB Abeh4/4 units and stock on services to and from Interlaken. We also travel to Zweilütschinen where we watch the BOB services join and split as they continue making their way to and from Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen.
BELGIUM - rush-hour action from south-west of Brussels near Enghien and Silly. Classes 21 and 27 operate on rakes of coaches; EMUs from classes AM83 and new class AM8 are seen on commuter services, so too are a pair of class 55 diesels, and THALYS, TGV and Eurostar trainsets speed by the camera on the high-speed line near Silly.
AUSTRIA - a study of trains on two mainlines; one to the north of Wiener-Neustadt where we witness Classes 4020, 5047, 2016, 1116, 1216 and 1144; and then to the Westbahn mainline where classes 1142, 1144, 1116, 2070, Hungarian 470 and DB class 185 are seen on a variety of passenger and freight services on this busy line west of Vienna.
FRANCE - class BB67400 diesels at work on local and Intercity duties west of Laon.
GERMANY - a look at traction on the München to Augsburg mainline with classes 423, 440, 120, 101, ICE, 1116, 185, 189, 151 and 151 on a range of passenger and freight services.
