(Standard DVD) American Railroad: Vol 41 - Indiana and Ohio. NS Chicago line and CSX hot-spots
Description
Run-time: 1 hour and 44 min
Heading into Indiana from the eastern suburbs of Chicago we cover Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation routes towards the State of Ohio. We begin around the Ogden Dunes area on the NS Chicago Division with a whole string of freight services, from manifests, steel, container and passenger services belonging to the Chicago Southshore and South Bend Railroad.
Continuing east we visit the railfan hotspot at Porter and Chesterton as the lineside action continues. Included on the busy railroad scenes are locomotives from NS, CSX, BNSF, UP, CPKC, and CN. Block fuel trains, coal and steel coil workings are added to the mix of freight services seen.
Continuing east we call at Wellsboro where the CSX and CN tracks cross each other on a flat diamond. Double-stack, empty coke, a local and loaded coal fill our screens as they forge their way towards their destinations.
We stay on the CSX Garrett Subdivision as we head east to our next location at the popular train-watching destination of Deshler. Here the Garrett Sub crosses over the Toledo Sub on another flat diamond crossing. Double-stack, coal, coke and manifests make up the majority of trains seen, with UP run-through power added to the mix. We use a variety of positions in and around the diamond as well as close to the eastside wye as services pound the rails or squeal their way through the curves.
Finally we head south-east and to the small community at New London where its CSX road trains that dominate our visit. We were lucky enough to capture a pair of SD40-2s from the Wheeling and Lake Erie RR.
