BELGIUM: A look at the eastern end of the main freight line (line 24) linking Antwerpen with Germany. We begin on the outskirts of Liege near Chartel steelworks where we see SNCB 7700 diesels on steel workings and privately operated ?master and slave? steelworks shunters. Moving north we take in the impressive viaduct over the River Muese as well as those at Remersdael and Montzen. Loco types seen are SNCB class 20, 22, 23, 27 and 55 as well as DB class 140, 215, 225 and 241 (and a British ?Desiro? Class 444).

GERMANY: Our mainline action takes us to the busy junction at Obertraubling just to the south of Regensburg on the lines to Munich and Passau. Classes include DB 101, 110, 111, 143 and 151 and OBB electrics type 1016 and 1116.

DENMARK: The chase is on! We hurry to film ex-DSB Roundnose MX26 on a freight from Herning to Lemvig in May 2004. Also featured are a variety of diesel multiple units.

FRANCE: The viaducts at Souillac on the line south of Brive are some of the most photographed in France. We spend an afternoon watching the variety of passenger and freight trains along this little known main line.

AUSTRIA: Ninety-five year old locomotives feature as we visit the famous 760-mm gauge Mariazellerbahn. Some superb sequences are witnessed as veteran Class 1099 electrics are seen at work on passenger services on the northern part of the network. Class 5090 multiple units and a 2095 diesel are also featured on this time-warp of a railway.

GERMANY: We conclude with a look at the powerful Class 218 diesels at work north of Hamburg and to the south-east of Hannover in 2003 and 2004. Plenty of thrash!
