(Standard DVD) European Railway: Issue 60 (March - April 2015)
Description
Run-time 1hour 38 mins approx
FRANCE - a look at trains in the Doubes Valley to the south-east of Belfort on the line to Dijon. We base ourselves high up on the hills overlooking the town of Laissey where we see BB22200, BB26000, BB27000, BB37000, x73500 & z7600 in action along the valley floor amidst stunning scenery.
GERMANY - engineering work during early October 2014 on the Arlberg mainline in Austria, resulted in freight & passenger trains being diverted via Germany through Bavaria on the route down into Lindau. We witness the rare sight of freight trains on this normally passenger dominated line powered by DB class 233 diesels and Austrian class 2016s. We also look at class 628s & 218s on the single-track line to Friedrichshafen, whilst on the mainline classes 611, 612, 628, 223 & 218s dominate north of Lindau.
SWITZERLAND - in superb summer sunshine, we follow the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn from Realp to Grengiols near Brig. Local passenger services powered by Motor Luggage Vans with loco-hauled Glacier Express trains make their way through the spectacular mountain scenery. We also take time out to discover a little known fact about the James Bond film ‘Goldfinger’. At Realp & Oberwald we see a car-shuttle train in action as well as views along the line, of the snow-covered mountains.
FRANCE - mainline action to the north of Orléans with BB7200, BB22200, BB26000 and BB27000.
SLOVENIA - Part 2 of our feature on the loud class 664 diesels working freight trains south of Borovnica. If you think that Part 1 was noisy - wait until you hear this! Almost as an aside to the 664s, we also see class 2016s at work whilst this electrified mainline is rebuilt after the 2014 ice storm.
