Description
Run-time 1hr and 47 mins approx:
AUSTRIA - a visit is made to the Tauernbahn mountain route north of Villach. Superb Alpine scenery provides the backdrop to this picturesque main line. Classes 1016, 1116 and 1144 dominate. Car-shuttle, Intercity, Railjet, local and Freight services are all seen.
FRANCE - the clock is ticking towards the complete withdrawal of class BB17000. We look at the class at work to the north-east of Paris on the route to Laon. Other types are also seen with BB67400 diesels, Regiolis and x76500 in action.
THE NETHERLANDS - more endangered species are looked at with Mat ‘64 round-nose units in action south of Roermond. Also included are more modern units; plus freight and an ex 2200 diesel on track testing duties.
GERMANY - the mainline through Naumburg (Saale) is visited with Intercity, Regional and Freight services all appearing. Examples of classes 213, 298, 285, 101, 120, 143, 152, 182, 185, 411, 415 and 672 are included.
SWITZERLAND - a look at branchline action on the line east of Langenthal to Menznau. Operated by BLS the line uses RABe 525 electric units on passenger services, but variety is provided by Re6/6 locomotives on the surprisingly busy freight scene linked to the servicing of various factories along the route.
FRANCE - one of just two remaining routes with diesel loco-hauled Intercity services is the cross-country route north of Bordeaux and on towards Nantes. Filmed in September 2015 this section looks at services on the section south of Saintes, including the fine rail bridge over the Dordogne River. BB67400, Vossloh G1206, Class 66, B81500 and B82500 are the classes seen.
