Description
In this programme we visit:
France: The busy freight complex at Somain in the north which together with the yard at Lille, serves a wide area of this heavily industrialised part of the country. Scenes are taken in 1993 and 2003 and feature classes BB12000, 16500, 25100, 25500, 64700, 66000, 22200, 26000, 27000, 36000 and SNCB class 12.
Spain: A visit is made to the private railways around the Spanish town of Gijon. Several industrial locos are seen on coal, coke and molten iron trains feeding the local steelworks. A look is also taken at the nearby RENFE mainline and the narrow-gauge FEVE network.
Austria: a survey of action at this railway hot-spot town of Selzthal. Filmed over a five year period, we include now withdrawn classes 1040, 1041 and 1110 electrics as well as brand new class 2070 diesels, 1016 and 1116 electrics - and even a DB class 151!
Hungary: diesel operations along the lines that skirt Lake Balaton, including M41 and M62 on passenger workings
France: rural lines to the north of Marseille.
Germany: mainline action along the banks of the mighty river Rhine between Koblenz and Lorch. Both east and west banks are featured with classes 215, 101, 103, 110, 111, 120, 140, 141, 143, 145, 146, 150, 151, 155, 182 and ICE!
