Description
This programme comprises country sections from the European Railway Magazine programme from Spring 2006 to Spring 2007.
We study freight and passenger activity on the mainline between Basel and Brugg on the line to Zurich. A whole host of classes appear including 560, ICE, Re 4/4, Re 6/6 and 460.
Göschenen - next to the northern Gotthard tunnel is busy with freight & passenger activity, we see Re 4/4, 6/6, Ae 6/6, 460, Italian ETR 470, DB class 185, Tm IV and FO Deh 4/4 as well as an Ae4/7 with an Ae8/14 - an truly incredible sight!
The first in a two-part survey of the narrow-gauge lines in the Jungfrau region of the Berner-Oberland, south of Interlaken. We begin at Lauterbrunnen before ascending to Kleine Scheidegg – the junction for the Jungfrau Bahn – situated some 2061 metres above sea-level.
Part 2 of our journey up the Jungfrau: from Kleine Scheidegg we follow the narrow-gauge trains on the Jungfraubahn as they make their way up the Jungfrau mountain towards the highest station in Europe. The scenery is superb as our visit coincides with cloudless skies and snow-covered mountain tops. We then continue our journey along the Wengernalpbahn down to Grindelwald and the terminus station with the Berner
Oberland Bahn. The trains seen are a mixture of brand-new and older stock dating from the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Night scenes at Pratteln: the mainline south within the suburbs of Basel is featured as we look at the latest developments in the modern rail scene in this part of Switzerland. New class 185, 482 and 485 are seen together with traditional class 460, Re 4/4, Re 6/6, Ae 6/6, & Taurus EU64 on passenger and freight workings. This location is a real hot-spot for observers with over 30 movements seen in the hour we were there!
