(Standard DVD) Swiss Cab-ride: Chur to St.Moritz
Description
Run-time: 1h and 42mins approx.
A driver's-eye cab-ride at the front of Glacier Express train no: 904 between Chur and St.Moritz. Fantastic Alpine scenery filmed in beautiful sunshine.
A panoramic train ride on the Glacier Express through the Swiss Alps is an unforgettable experience: from the luxurious resort of Zermatt to St.Moritz. With a total journey time of around 8 hours on one of the slowest ‘express’ trains in the world, you pass over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels, leading through the Alpine Passes of the Furka, the Oberalp and the Albula. In this programme we get a driver’s-eye view of the line in glorious sunny weather as we climb aboard locomotive Ge4/4 #625 belonging to the Rhaetian Railway, as we travel the final part of the journey from Chur along the spectacular Albula Pass line, which with its bridges and helical tunnels, leads us to St.Moritz; overcoming an altitude difference of 1191 meters in a distance of around 90 km. Today the Albula section is very busy with tourist, inter-regional and freight trains; with frequent passing points situated along the route. We head out of Chur along the young River Rhein Valley before turning south to follow the Hinterrhein before following the course of the Albula river along the Landwasser Valley up to Preda. We then break into the valley of the River Inn before reaching the beautiful scenery around St.Moritz. Filmed in sunshine in July 2018.
