(Standard DVD) Swiss Cab-ride: St.Moritz to Chur 2019
Description
Run-time: 1 hour and 53 mins approx.
A panoramic carriage ride on the Glacier Express through the Swiss Alps is an unforgettable experience: from the luxurious resort of St. Moritz to Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn. With a total journey time of around 8 hours on one of the slowest ‘express’ trains in the world, you pass over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels, leading through the Alpine Passes of the Albula, the Oberalp and the Furka. In this programme we get a driver’s-eye view of the line in glorious sunny weather as we climb aboard locomotive Ge4/4 #625 belonging to the Rhaetian Railway, as we travel the first part of the journey along the spectacular Albula Pass line, which with its bridges and helical tunnels, leads us to Chur; overcoming an altitude difference of 1191 meters in a distance of around 90 km. The Albula section is very busy with tourist, interregional and freight trains; with frequent passing points situated along the route. We head down the Landwasser Valley then along the straight track to Reichenau-Tamins and to the Rhein Valley; and the double-track main line through to our finishing point at Chur. At the entrance to Chur station Ge 4/4 #628 awaits to take the train forward up to Disentis, a journey which we will feature in a future cab-ride programme. Filmed in July 2018.
